Nottinghamshire nursing home rated 'outstanding'

The Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by Wren Hall Nursing Home in Selston, Nottinghamshire, to be 'outstanding'.

Wren Hall is a large nursing home for older people, most of whom are living with dementia. Wren Hall provides accommodation for 53 people.

Inspectors found staff were caring and compassionate and people were being provided with safe, responsive, caring, effective and well-led care.

Under CQC’s programme of inspections, all adult social care services are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

Wren Hall Nursing Home was rated Outstanding for being caring, well-led and responsive and Good for being effective and safe.

Rob Assall-Marsden, CQC’s head of inspection for adult social care in the central region, says: “Our inspection team were really impressed by the level of care and support offered at Wren Hall Nursing Home.

“Staff developed exceptionally kind, positive and compassionate relationships with people. They demonstrated person centred values, which placed an emphasis on respect for the individual being supported. People's care was individualised, staff put them first and knew them really well.

“Without exception, people, visitors, staff and professionals were overwhelmingly positive about the leadership of the service. They felt that the reason for the consistent high quality of service came from the proactive and positive leadership which filtered down to all of the staff.

“Care was personalised, staff knew about people's lives, their families and what they enjoyed doing. There was a wide variety of activities for people to participate in both within and outside of the service.

“People's care plans were very detailed and written in a person-centred way. Relatives were actively in decisions about their relations care.

“All of this meant people received a high standard of care, which is why it has been rated 'outstanding'.”

Andrea Sutcliffe, chief inspector of adult social care, says: “The quality of care which our inspectors found here was exceptional and I am very pleased that we can celebrate the service’s achievements.
“An outstanding service is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work and commitment. I would like to thank and congratulate everyone involved.”
