Residents and staff at New Century Care have fully embraced World Cup fever this year by running their very own World Cup themed competition.
Each of New Century Care's care homes have been challenged to pick one country to cheer on throughout the World Cup tournament. Alongside hosting viewing parties for each match their chosen team plays in, residents and staff will also be running themed events related to their teams’ country; this will range from music events with the chosen country's traditional songs, decorating the homes with flags and even changing the menu on match days in a sign of solidarity.
The homes are getting into the swing of the tournament with festivities already taking place. One of the homes, Buxton Lodge, has decided to support Russia in the tournament and has fully committed to the occasion. The home has been decorated with bunting, Russian flags and a number of charts to monitor Russia’s progress. It will be hosting viewing parties for all the games with Russian cakes, chilled vodka and excellent company.
In addition to sparking lively discussions about whether homes should choose their team based on their odds of winning or their preferred menu, it has also led to increased interaction within the care homes, with resident’s fully embracing World Cup fever. The friendly competition and fun activities have created an exciting atmosphere across the homes with residents and staff in high spirits.
