Plans to redevelop closed home

Sister Dora, a closed care home in the Staffordshire village of Milford, bordering Cannock Chase and situated near Shugborough Hall, a National Trust site, has been sold.

Originally built as a military hospital in the 1880s and named after one of its nurses, who was known locally as Walsall's answer to Florence Nightingale, the property was converted to a care home in the 1970s and subsequently extended to accommodate more residents.

The site has been acquired by Macc Care, which currently operates six homes in and around Birmingham and Wolverhampton. The leading regional operator plans to redevelop the site and build a state-of-the-art care facility in its place.

The directors and management at Macc Care said they would like to thank the development team, particularly the architect, and were all impressed by the vision of the local planning team to facilitate a beautiful development to fit in with this very special location.

Paul Reilly, director at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, comments: "We are very pleased to announce the sale of Sister Dora to Macc Care, as it will be a great addition to their portfolio and we have no doubt they will do a fantastic job in redeveloping the site.

"I am sure future residents will be very satisfied with the affluent location of the home, thanks to its proximity to Cannock Chase and the opportunity to observe the outstanding natural beauty and wildlife it offers. This in combination with the high standard of living provided by Macc Care homes, I have no doubt they will be very successful."
