£10 million refurbishment project

Thirty seven MHA care homes across England, Wales and Scotland are benefitting from a multi-million pound investment in a refurbishment programme to upgrade facilities.

The older person’s charity is investing £10 million to provide upgraded en-suite bathrooms, interior design and redecoration of bedrooms and communal areas and new furniture to key areas such as dining rooms and lounges in the homes as part of its commitment to reinvest its surplus to make sure it continues to provide quality of life for older people.

Several sites are also receiving refurbished commercial kitchens. MHA has procured and partnered with three contractors - CLC, J Tomlinson and Novus Ltd - to carry out the refurbishment work during 2018.

Interim director of care homes Linda Zaidi says: “As a charity we make sure we re-invest our surplus into maintaining and developing our services. I am delighted that we have been able to make this investment to refurbish 37 of our 90 care homes to give a better environment for our residents and their families.”

MHA Briar Hill House care home in Rugeley, Staffordshire, has already benefited from the refurbishment work. Manager Anne Palmer says: “Briar Hill looks so fresh and bright since the recent refurbishment which included all communal areas, bedrooms, the main kitchen and the laundry.

“Residents enjoyed choosing their colour schemes for their bedrooms prior to work starting and also supervising the contractors work. The whole home was completed with minimal disruption, including the use of a temporary kitchen. Many compliments have been received since completion from residents, relatives and visitors, which shows MHA’s commitment to improving the quality of life of our residents.”

Louise Culshaw, administration manager at MHA Aughton Park care home in Ormskirk, Lancashire says: “Our residents are absolutely delighted with the end result. It was tricky to manage and work through at times but it was definitely worth it. We have had numerous compliments from visitors and also from prospective residents during show-rounds.”
