Hull care home residents enjoyed all the fun of the fair during their own event, which rivalled the city’s annual show.
Cottingham’s Overton House, a Hica Group home, hosted the event for residents who were unable to attend the annual Hull event, due to health and accessibility restrictions.
Staff from the specialist dementia home, organised a jam-packed day filled with classic games and fabulous food such as: hook a duck, a coconut shy, ring toss and of course candyfloss.
Earlier this month, in preparation for the home’s funfair, volunteers from Hull Community Theatre visited Overton House. Volunteers helped residents reflect on their fondest memories through discussion and re-enactments of their favourite funfair scenes.
Margaret Walker, the home’s manager says: “Residents really enjoyed the show Hull Community Theatre put on. It really got them in the mood for their funfair day.
“Many of our residents have fond memories of Hull Fair and were disappointed that they can longer attend. I’m proud of our staff for organising such an inclusive event that was enjoyed by all.”
Overton House often host fun filled, inclusive events. Resident’s favourites include: Mad Hatters tea parties, Strictly Ballroom afternoons and baking competitions.
Penni Brown, chief executive says: “Overton House hosts some fantastic events. I am really proud of the staff for coming up with such an interactive event that mirrored what the local community were up to.
“I’m grateful that volunteers from the local theatre came by to help residents relive their fondest memories. They enjoyed this session and we plan to work with the theatre again.”
