Essex care home rated 'outstanding'

The Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by Mountfitchet House care home in Stansted, Essex, to be 'outstanding' following an inspection in September last year.

Mountfitchet House provides accommodation and personal care with nursing for up to 60 older people who may also have dementia. At the time of the inspection there were 53 people using the service. The service was last inspected in 2015 when it was rated as 'good'.

As a result of the most recent inspection, he home is now rated 'outstanding' overall.

Inspectors found staff were caring and compassionate and people were being provided with safe, responsive, caring, effective and well-led care.

Under CQC’s programme of inspections, all adult social care services are given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Mountfitchet House is rated 'outstanding' for being caring, effective and well led, and 'good' for being safe and responsive.

Jemima Burnage, CQC’s head of inspection for adult social care in the central region says: “Our inspection team was really impressed by the level of care and support offered to people at Mountfitchet House.

“We found the service was very well managed. The registered manager was a strong leader who was highly motivated and the service had a full complement of nurses with the skills to meet the needs of the people using the home. This meant people received continuity of care from highly skilled staff.

“Staff had excellent relationships with people who used the service and were attentive to their needs. People's privacy and dignity was respected at all times and staff showed empathy and understanding.

“People were encouraged to follow their interests and hobbies and to engage in meaningful person-centred activities. They were supported to keep in contact with their family and friends. People using the service received support that was personalised and tailored to their needs, with care plans reflecting their likes, dislikes and preferences.

“All of this meant people received a high standard of care, which is why it has been rated 'outstanding'.”

Andrea Sutcliffe, chief inspector of adult social care, says: “The quality of care which our inspectors found here was exceptional and I am very pleased that we can celebrate the service’s achievements.

“An outstanding service is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work and commitment. I would like to thank and congratulate everyone involved.”
