Care provider Cascade has opened a £2.2m state-of-the-art residential care home near Norwich for people living with autism, mental health conditions and learning difficulties.

Located in Costessey, Hurst House has eight bedrooms - with five bedrooms in the main house, and an additional three located in self-contained flats within the grounds of the home for Cascade’s more independent residents.

Two bedrooms within the main house are on the ground floor, for residents with physical disabilities.

Both of these rooms encompass a full hoist system to help with mobility, alongside an ensuite wet room.

This assistive technology reduces risks to both the resident and caregiver during the provision of care.

These full hoist systems also provide residents with more independence, building confidence and self-esteem, which can also have a beneficial effect on their mental health.

Cascade has also incorporated an advanced hydrotherapy bath which provides a calming atmosphere and sensory experience for residents. This facility may also improve the experience for those with physical disabilities.

With education at the heart of each Cascade home, Hurst House has a dedicated classroom for residents, who are encouraged to engage in a range of programmes, qualifications and development courses using the ASDAN programme.

Courses range from ‘Money Management’ to ‘Independent Living’ and all work towards developing life skills and achieving personalised goals.

Residents of Hurst House can also enjoy a games room, sensory lights, and an expansive garden with a seating area, trampoline, swings and football posts for the summer months.

Sonnie Rozenbroek, director of group and compliance at Cascade said: “A lot of work has gone into making sure Hurst House is the best of the best for our residents. Here at Cascade, we make homes in ordinary locations with extraordinary facilities to enable those important steps towards developing life skills, confidence and a better future.

“Creating a space that is safe, secure and fun - with emphasis on facilities to improve quality of life - it has been wonderful to welcome our residents to their new home.”
