Window restrictors: a breath of fresh air

Danny Openshaw of UAP, the specialist in safety and security hardware for windows and doors, discusses the role of window restrictors in providing safer ventilation for care homes as they open up to visitors.

Keeping residents safe has always been a high priority in the design and management of care home environments.

Not only must care homes be built and fitted in a way that takes account of limited mobility and other vulnerabilities, they must also take into account other risk factors, such as wandering, disorientation and, in some cases, the determination of residents to ‘escape’.

The advent of Covid-19 has made these core safety considerations no less immediate, but has added increased infection control requirements into the mix. Residents in the sector have been hardest hit twice.
