Dulux guards against viral and bacterial attacks with Sterishield

Paint manufacturer Dulux has launched Sterishield Dual Active Matt, a quick drying, water-based paint boasting anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties.

Dulux Trade intends for the new paint to meet what it says is ‘growing demand among decorators and consumers for products that contribute to more hygienic environments’.

The paint incorporates antimicrobial additives designed to inhibit bacteria and viruses. Dulux claim that Sterishield reduces populations of Coronaviruses, E. coli, and MRSA, among others, thus promoting a more hygienic environment when used in conjunction with appropriate cleaning practices.

Sterishield Dual Active Matt is stain-resistant and scrubbable. Its ISO 11998 Class 1 and Type C BS 7719 scrub rating makes it ideal for high use areas that require regular cleaning, such as those in care home environments.

Dulux Trade’s marketing manager Rebecca Orton said: “In the current climate, we have seen increased demand for products that are more durable and reduce the risk of bacterial and viral exposure. Dulux Trade Sterishield Dual Active Matt offers the best of both worlds, containing in-film antimicrobial additives that inhibit bacteria and viruses within the paint film and withstand repeated cleaning.

This new innovation will enable greater specification with a specialist product that is suitable for a wide-range of environments where hygiene is paramount – from hospitals and doctors’ surgeries to catering and kitchen operations and nursing homes and extending to gyms, hotels and holiday villages.”
