Views sought on Welltower acquisitions of over 600 care homes
The CMA has invited comments on the takeover of several UK care homes by US elderly care housing giant Welltower for a second time.
The move comes after it announced in January that it was investigating completed acquisitions by Welltower of over 600 active care homes managed by Barchester, HC-One, Aria Care (including Asprey) and Danforth Care, and a further undisclosed number of care homes with planning permission to proceed with construction.

£6m Yorkare home set to open in York next month

Yorkare are currently recruiting 80 staff ahead of opening a new 60 bed care home in York next month. Built on the site of a disused medical centre – which was demolished to make way for the new home – the 9th Yorkare home was constructed by the firms established partner Hobson & Porter and will include a dedicated floor for residents with dementia.

A&S Care Group adds Kingsly House nursing home
West country-based care home group A&S Care has added a 37 resident Tetbury nursing home to its portfolio, taking its total footprint to six homes. The 35-bedroom home – Kinglsey House – had been run by the previous owner the Cotswold Nursing Home Company for 25 years.
The CQC ‘Good’ rated-home sale was handled by Christie’s and was sold for an undisclosed sum.
Physio turned care home operator acquires third south Wales home
An 11-bed dementia care home on the south coast of Wales has been acquired by Spring Meadows Care, taking the firm’s footprint in the Porthcawl area to three. Spring Meadows – owned by a physiotherapist Mani Neelamegan who has specialised in older peoples’ care – bought the home after it was put on the market for the first time in 36 years due to retirement.
Mr Neelamegan said he aims to “bring positive growth and stability” to the home built on the firm’s focus of “providing compassionate, person-centred care in a safe and homely environment.”
