Baroness Louise Casey is stepping up public engagement on adult social care reform this month as the first phase of her Big Conversation on Care approaches its September deadline.
The Casey Commission said more than 350,000 votes have already been cast through its online consultation platform, alongside more than 6,000 public proposals, since Baroness Casey unveiled the initiative during a speech alongside Andy Burnham at a Jewish Care home in London in the summer.
The consultation forms part of the wider Casey Commission review on adult social care, which the Prime Minister said in July would now report a year earlier than originally planned, with recommendations on a National Care Service due in 2027 rather than 2028.
Speaking at the launch of the Big Conversation in July, Baroness Casey described it as “the most ambitious public conversation in a generation” on adult social care, with a target to engage one million people across England.
The first online phase closes on 23 September, with new proposals accepted until 9 September before voting continues on submitted ideas.
The commission said Baroness Casey will continue a programme of visits, events and engagement activity designed to encourage more people across England to take part in the consultation and share views on the future of adult social care. The exercise asks a single question: “When we are old or disabled, or have a serious illness, who should support us and how?”
