The care home sector is evolving rapidly. New developments continue to enter the market, expectations from people living in them and their families are rising, and providers face increasing pressure to balance quality, operational efficiency and financial viability.
Yet despite significant investment, many newly completed care homes risk appearing dated before they have welcomed their first residents. Too often, schemes are shaped by short-lived interior trends or hospitality-inspired aesthetics rather than a deeper understanding of how the built environment supports residents, staff and operators over the long term.
Perhaps it is time the sector challenged one of its own assumptions: have we mistaken luxury for quality?
