Upgraded Fall Detector

Chubb Community Care, part of Chubb Fire & Security Ltd, has launched an enhanced version of its wrist-worn fall detector, which provides greater functionality to identify and cancel a false alarm.

This additional functionality provides users with even greater confidence and ability to lead an independent life.

The new technology that identifies and can cancel a false alarm, will enable the wearer to continue with their day-to-day life without unnecessary disturbance. It is still a reliable first line of defence, however, if the wearer should find themselves in genuine distress.

David Hammond, general manager of Chubb Community Care, says that the new detector features bespoke algorithms to distinguish a fall from a false alarm.  “During the first 20 seconds of an incident, cutting-edge algorithms perform silent analysis of the situation, recognising if an individual is back on their feet,” says Hammond.

“If an alert is either immediately sent or not cancelled a red light will flash and the detector will vibrate for 20 seconds, alerting the user that help has been called. This either gives them the reassurance they need that help is on the way or it gives them the opportunity to manually cancel the activation.”

During this period, the wearer can immediately activate an alarm pressing the centre button of their pendant. The upgraded detector also features improved self-cancellation software, preventing accidental reversals by identifying when an individual is moving on the floor, rather than standing up. This makes it suitable for individuals with epilepsy or who are prone to seizures.

Minimising false alarms while maximising the detection of genuine incidents will be a continued focus for the Chubb product development team. “Our role is to keep individuals safe but without unnecessarily intruding into their lives,” Hammond concludes.
