Loveday Esher: “we don’t believe in mediocrity”

Loveday & Co held a garden party in July to celebrate the opening of their latest luxury property in Esher, Surrey. The Care Home Environment editor Matt Seex attended the event and spoke with chairman and founder Laurence Geller CBE about Loveday Esher and the provider’s future plans

The town of Esher in Surrey has a long and rich history, from its appearance in the Domesday Book of 1086 to forming part of Henry VIII's hunting grounds in the 16th century. More recently, this leafy (and expensive) suburb has been home to famous musicians such as George Harrison and the Bee Gees' Maurice Gibb.

Today, Esher is the location of luxury care provider Loveday & Co's latest (and perhaps most spectacular) residence, Loveday Esher, which occupies a restored Grade II listed house built in 1864 that at one time served as the precursor to Chequers, the prime minister's country residence. Set in 13 acres of well-established, meticulously landscaped gardens some five miles south of Hampton Court Palace, the three-storey, 37-bed Loveday Esher offers residential and dementia care and day club services for Loveday Members, who will be able to enjoy the all the luxuries that Loveday membership offers in a peaceful 'stately home' setting that combines period details such as original wooden panelling with high-end, contemporary interior design.

Loveday celebrated the official opening of Loveday Esher on a sunny 3 July with an extravagant garden party which I was honoured to attend. Having been extremely impressed by my visit to Loveday Belgravia in March (see the June issue of The Care Home Environment) I was eager to visit Loveday's latest and intrigued to see how (and indeed if) the provider could top its luxury Belgravia residence. Needless to say,
I was not disappointed.
