On a former problem pub site in Shirley, Macc Care has created Heathfield Rose – a boutique, clinically led, digitally enabled care home. Editor Mary‑Louise Clews attended the launch to find out why this site was chosen, how the development unfolded, and what Macc Care believes sets it apart in a crowded luxury market.
Until recently, the corner of Shirley now occupied by Macc Care's newest boutique care home Heathfield Rose was known locally for all the wrong reasons.
"It was a former pub that had become a derelict building known for break-ins, graffiti, fires — the lot," Macc Care new build director and chief nurse Charlotte Quartey, paints the scene. "The local PCSOs told us how many call‑outs they used to have. Now they're very happy this is here."
Today, police sirens have been replaced by birdsong and the soft hiss of automatic doors. Heathfield Rose - Macc Care's 18th care home — is a three‑storey, purpose‑built nursing facility complete with a cinema and gym that looks out over horses, sheep and a field of alpacas.
