Stourbridge wildfires: Evacuation at new Barchester Healthcare home

Following reports of a care home evacuation overnight in the Stourbridge area in the West Midlands, TCHE can confirm that residents of Barchester's recently opened 55-bed Iverley View were moved to sister homes in the area after wildfires took hold very nearby (see image above that appears to show a property on fire on Norton Road near the new home).

Five residents were moved to Broadway Halls care home in Dudley, and seven have been moved to Hollyfields in Kidderminster after fire crews continued to be deployed to tackle 'hot spots' on Norton Road where the Iverley View home is based, TCHE has learned.

In a statement issued at lunchtime today, a spokesperson for Barchester said:

"Due to a wildfire in a neighbouring field, we can confirm that Iverley View care home sustained minor damage to part of its guttering yesterday.

"As a precaution, all residents were safely evacuated and moved to alternative Barchester care homes.

"We are continuing to work closely with the emergency services and are supporting residents, relatives and staff," they added.

The home has recently opened and is due to have a launch event in just over a week's time on Saturday 22nd August.
