Independent research has found that Sensio’s RoomMate sensor technology can improve falls detection, reduce safeguarding falls and support faster staff response times in care settings.
Commissioned by Sensio and independently conducted by Care Research, the evaluation analysed real-world data from care providers using RoomMate, including falls, safeguarding incidents, ambulance callouts and response times. Interviews with frontline teams and care leaders provided additional insight into the technology’s impact.
Key findings include:
· Safeguarding falls reduced by 51–80%, with an average reduction of around 61% across services where comparable pre- and post-implementation data was available.
· Falls detection increased, particularly for bedroom falls, indicating that RoomMate was identifying previously undetected or unrecorded incidents.
· Response times improved in the majority of services, with some homes more than halving the time taken to reach residents following a fall or alert.
· No increase in serious harm was identified, with serious injuries remaining consistently low throughout the evaluation.
The research also highlighted wider benefits reported by care teams, including improved safeguarding information, earlier visibility of potential health concerns, more dignified monitoring, improved documentation and increased family confidence.
