The Old Malthouse Care Home in Selsey, West Sussex, has been sold to local care operator Follett Care.
Registered for 34 residents, the Old Malthouse specialises in dementia care. It occupies a sixteenth-century property with 30 bedrooms and was originally a working granary and malt house, still retaining many original features.
Following a confidential sales process with Charles Phillips at Christie & Co, it has been purchased by Follett Homes Limited, which operates Follett Care Ltd.
Nihal Samareskara, former owner, said: “The Old Malthouse is a lovely home and, after 13 years of ownership, I am sad to be leaving, but I am very pleased to be handing the business over to Follett Care, a West Sussex-based care home operator. I am confident that they will continue providing high-quality care to the residents.”
Emily George and Bijo Joseph, directors at Follett Care, commented: “The purchase of The Old Malthouse shows our commitment to the West Sussex care sector, and we are delighted to have purchased the business. This is a lovely building located in a delightful seaside town, and we are looking forward to building on Nihal’s success.”
Charles Phillips, director – dare at Christie & Co, added: “This is the third time over the years that I have sold this care home and each time I visit, I am impressed with the care home. This is a lovely building which has been sympathetically extended over the years and offers very good care and quality accommodation. I was very pleased to be asked to act for Nihal when he decided to sell, and we managed to achieve a high level of interest during the marketing campaign. Follett Care is the ideal purchaser for this business, and we wish them all the best with their plans for the home. The sale of this care home clearly demonstrates there is a high demand for care homes in the South.”
